Isar
The medieval fortress Isar is located in the western part of the city and rises on top of a rocky ridge about 150 meters high. On the western side, the fortress is surrounded by a steep slope toward the river Bregalnica, while on the southern side it faces the river Otinja. In the 14th century, four churches were built around the fortress, forming an imaginary cross: from the eastern side St. Archangel Michael (Fitija), from the western side St. John the Baptist, from the northern side St. Nicholas (Toplichki), and to the south St. Blaise.
Today, the Isar fortress is a true tourist attraction and a place where the well-known Shtip cultural event “Chetrse” (Chetresе) is held every year, which is part of the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage
