Art Gallery “Bezisten”

The Bezisten is located on the right bank of the Otinja River, in the central part of the city It was built before 1662 and served as the main charshia (bazaar) for the sale of luxury and valuable goods (its purpose was later changed).

The Bezisten is an important cultural monument. Due to its historical significance and the possibilities the space offers, in 1962 it was reconstructed and repurposed into a permanent art gallery for contemporary Macedonian art, and it was placed under the authority of the NI Institute and Museum – Shtip. The Bezisten hosts exhibitions by many Macedonian and international artists, various forms of visual arts, and many other cultural events such as concerts, fairs, and more.
